The Department of Mathematics was founded in 1963, one of the original departments when Fu Jen Catholic University was re-established in Taiwan. Its 15 faculty members conduct a wide range research including analysis, numerical analysis, discrete mathematics, statistics, number theory, differential equations and applied mathematics.

There are two sections in the Department of Mathematics. Students can major in either theoretical mathematics or applied mathematics. Besides the training in traditional mathematics, we emphasize knowledge and skill in computational mathematics. In addition to the University's Computer Center, this department has a well-equipped Computer Laboratory with 42 sets of Pentium III & 4's with many commercial mathematical softwares available. They are used for numerical software design and statistical computation. Furthermore, we have two sets of PC's with multi-media peripherals to provide our teachers with facilities to make their own CD-R's as teaching supplements. This increases the student interest in 1earning and makes teaching more lively.
