Students interested in the undergraduate program of the Department of Mathematics can apply for admission through the following four methods:

• General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT, held annually in late January or early February for (vocational) high school graduates or those with equivalent education level) + the Department’s test (held annually in May for applicants passing GSAT).
• Advanced Subjects Test (AST, held annually in July for high school graduates or those with equivalent education level).
• Transfer students from other universities (held annually in July for current college students or those with equivalent education level).
• Transfer students from other departments within Fu Jen (held annually in July for current Fu Jen students).

Application Requirements

• For (vocational) high school graduates or those with equivalent education level: The total number of students admitted to the freshmen classes is 105 including 50 for the Information Mathematics Section and 55 for the Applied Mathematics Section. There are two methods for the application:

  • The General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) + the Department’s Special Screening Test: The first stage test is held nationwide by the College Entrance Examination Center (CEEC) focusing on high school subjects including English, Mathematics, and Science. Students passing the first stage test are qualified for the second stage test. The second stage test (the Department’s Special Screening Test) is held by the Department of Mathematics including a review of application materials and an oral exam. The application materials should include the official (vocational) high school transcript, an autobiography, a study plan (including the motivations of your application), certificates of competition achievement, certificates of student leadership, and any additional documents which may favor the application. Applicants are weighed on their GSAT score (45%), application materials (30%) and oral exam performance (25%) for the final decision.
  • The Advanced Subjects Test (AST): For high school graduates of science & engineering major, the test involves three subjects: Chinese, English, and Mathematics. The result of the test is computed by the formula of (Chinese x 1.25) + (English x 1.25) + (Mathematics x 2).

• Transfer students from other universities for the sophomore and junior year are evaluated by the review of application materials. The application materials should include an official copy of academic transcript (including class rank for each of the academic years), an autobiography, a study plan (including the motivations of your application etc.).
• Transfer students from other departments within Fu Jen University are evaluated by the result of an oral exam.

The department annually recruits a total of 12 students. The Master’s program currently admits students via following two ways:

• Taking the annual Master’ Special Screening Test in November.
• Taking the annual Master’s Entrance Exam in March.

Application Requirements

Students who have obtained bachelor’s degrees from registered universities or colleges in Taiwan or from foreign universities and colleges recognized by the Ministry of Education, and those who possess equivalent academic records while satisfying all exams or application criteria outlined in the recruitment summary, are eligible to participate in the admission exam, and enroll for master's studies once admitted.

• Master’ Special Screening Test: Applicants are weighed on the application materials (50%) and oral exam performance (50%), for the final decision. The application materials should include an official copy of college transcript (including all grades and class rank for each of the academic years), a study plan (including undergraduate study experience, motivation for application, learning plan, and future life planning), and any additional documents which may favor the application. The oral exam will test on the domain knowledge and evaluate on applicant’s study plan. • Master’s Entrance Exam: Applicants are weighed on the application materials (50%) and oral exam performance (50%), for the final decision. The application materials should include an official copy of college transcript (including all grades and class rank for each of the academic years), and any additional documents which may favor the application (eg. autobiography, study plan, and research project results).

All master students can apply for special scholarships, TA, or RA-ships each year.
